Vann House Days

Local crafts people will be demonstrating crafting skills as they were done in the 19th century at Vann House Days at the Chief Vann House in Chatsworth, Georgia on July 21, 2012 from 10 AM to 4 PM. Some of the skills being demonstrated are blacksmithing, quilting, spinning wool, chair caning, weaving, black powder shooting plus more. The museum will be open and staffed so you can take a self guided tour of the home and outbuildings while you are there. Admission is $3.50 to $6.00. For more information, call 706-695-2598.

Fort Mountain Summer Fun

There are some fun activities planned at Fort Mountain State Park in Chatsworth, Georgia in June, 2012. Come out for an evening of  roasting marshmallows and making s’mores around the campfire. This will be happening on June 22 and 29, 2012 from 8 PM to 9:30 PM.

On June 23, 2012 at 10:30 AM you can join in a Scavenger Hunt or at 2 PM you can join a naturalist and brush up on your outdoor skills. These activities will take place at the Naturalist Area by the boat dock. If you are interested in the 2 PM activity, you must sign up at the park office by 1 PM.

On June 30, 2012, play some old-time games from 2 PM to 4 PM. In the evening from 7 PM to 8 PM, meet at the Naturalist Area for a wagon ride that takes you to Old Fort where it is just a short hike to the west overlook; a great spot to see the Chatsworth fireworks display. Make sure to wear appropriate footwear for the hike and bring some water to stay hydrated. There is a $1 cash fee per person for the wagon ride. Children 12 and under are free. There is no extra charge for all of the other activities, just a $5 parking fee.

Kid’s Fishing Rodeo

Child FishermanThe annual Kid’s Fishing Rodeo is set for June 9, 2012 at Johnny Peeple’s pond in Chatworth, Georgia. Children up to age 15 are invited to enter this fun day of fishing.

Registration will begin at 7 AM and fishing will begin promptly at 8 AM. Registration and fishing will continue until 11 AM. Children must bring their own rods, reels, bait and tackle as they will not be provided. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Forest Service is sponsoring this FREE event as part of the celebration of National Fishing and Boating Week.

Open Mic Night

Open Mic NightVisit Frankie’s Italian Restaurant in Chatsworth, Georgia on Thursday nights for Open Mic Night. Enjoy some great Italian or Greek food and either listen to some performers as they showcase their talent or get up on stage and show your own talent. 2011 Independence Day Celebration

2011 Independence Day CelebrationThe 2011 Independence Day celebration will be held on July 2, 2011 in Chatsworth, Georgia. The festivities will take place at the Murray County Recreation Department facility starting at 4 PM. There will be food, plenty of fun for the children like an inflatable slide, games, a train, and a mechanical bull. A concert will begin at 6 PM featuring the Fort Mountain Boys. A fireworks display will follow the concert at approximately 10 PM.

2011 Fun Show

Stick Horse RaceThe Murray County Saddle Club is hosting the 2011 Fun Show in Chatsworth, Georgia on April 1, May 6, June 3, August 5, September 2, and October 7, 2011. Each of these shows will have a variety of fun horse races to watch. The gates open at 5 PM and the races begin at 7 PM. Here is a list of the races that will be run at each of the events:

Horse Camping at Fort Mountain

HorsesPlan an equestrian weekend at Fort Mountain State Park in Chatsworth, GA. Not only are there 25 miles of trails to ride on, there is an area now available where you can camp overnight with your horse. There is primitive camping available with a fire ring, a pit toilet, camper shell with bunks for sleeping bags, and a hitching post. Tents are permitted in the immediate shelter area. There is no electric or water hookups. You can only reach the camping area by hiking or riding in.
