The 855 foot long wall of rock that is located at the top of the mountain is why it is called Fort Mountain.  Legend has it that Indians built it for protection from other tribes or possibly for tribal ceremonies.  Fort Mountain State Park sits between Chatsworth and Ellijay Georgia.
