The 855 foot long wall of rock that is located at the top of the mountain is why it is called Fort Mountain. Legend has it that Indians built it for protection from other tribes or possibly for tribal ceremonies. Fort Mountain State Park sits between Chatsworth and Ellijay Georgia. The park is located in the Chattahoochee National Forest and offers plenty of activities for everyone. In the warmer months you can enjoy the sandy beach of the clear mountain lake or grab a peddle boat and enjoy the sun and mountain air. If you like mountain biking, horseback riding or hiking, you will surely appreciate the gorgeous trails this park has to offer.
There are also tent, trailer, and RV campsites for rent.
